Bumi Watch Repair & Restoration · Last updated: 17 April 2025

These terms govern the relationship between Bumi Watch Repair & Restoration and clients who commission work at our Kuching workshop or enquire via this website. Please read them before leaving a piece with us or submitting an enquiry.

1. About Bumi

Bumi Watch Repair & Restoration operates from 36 Jalan Padungan, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. We carry out repair, servicing, and restoration work on watches and wall clocks. References to "we", "us", or "the workshop" in these terms refer to Bumi Watch Repair & Restoration.

2. Scope of These Terms

These terms apply whenever a client:

  • Brings a timepiece to the workshop for assessment or servicing.
  • Commissions work following an in-person or written quotation.
  • Submits an enquiry via this website.

By leaving a piece with us or confirming a commission in writing, you agree to these terms. If anything is unclear, please ask before work begins.

3. Quotations and Pricing

Quotations are provided in Malaysian Ringgit (RM) and are based on an initial assessment of the piece. Published service prices reflect standard work; the final charge may differ where:

  • Hidden damage or wear is found once the movement is fully disassembled.
  • Parts unavailable in stock need to be sourced or fabricated.
  • The scope of required work changes from what was apparent at intake.

Where the anticipated final charge is expected to exceed the initial quotation by more than 15%, we will contact you before proceeding. You may choose to proceed, reduce the scope of work, or collect the piece in its current state. A partial assessment charge may apply where disassembly has already been carried out.

4. Acceptance of Work

Work on a commission is accepted when:

  • The piece has been left at the workshop and a receipt issued, or
  • Written confirmation of a quotation has been received from the client.

We reserve the right to decline work where we consider the piece unsuitable for the service requested, or where the expected outcome would not serve the client's interest.

5. Service Lead Times

Estimated lead times are provided in good faith based on workload and parts availability at the time of intake. They are not a contractual commitment. Factors that may affect completion include:

  • Parts sourcing from specialist suppliers.
  • Discovery of additional work during disassembly.
  • Prior commissions requiring completion before new work can begin.

We will communicate delays where lead time is expected to extend materially beyond the original estimate. Standard lead times by service are as follows:

  • Wall Clock Restoration — typically four to ten weeks.
  • Crystal Polishing — typically one to two working days.
  • Pivot Polishing & Burnishing — typically two to four weeks.

6. Collection of Completed Work

We will contact you when the commission is ready for collection. Work left uncollected for more than 60 days following notification may be subject to a storage charge. After 90 days without contact, we reserve the right to treat the piece as abandoned and dispose of it to recover costs. We will make reasonable efforts to reach you before taking this step.

Collection requires presentation of the original receipt. If the receipt has been lost, please contact us in advance so we can verify ownership by other means.

7. Payment

Payment is due in full upon collection of the completed piece, unless a prior written arrangement has been agreed. We accept cash and selected electronic payment methods at the workshop. We do not accept payment via website or bank transfer without prior agreement.

Work remains the property of Bumi until payment is received in full. A deposit may be requested for commissions involving sourced or fabricated parts.

8. Client Responsibilities

When leaving a piece with us, the client is responsible for:

  • Disclosing any prior repairs, alterations, or damage known to them.
  • Informing us of any sentimental or particular value attached to the piece.
  • Providing accurate contact information so we can reach them during the commission.
  • Collecting the piece within a reasonable time following notification of completion.

Non-disclosure of prior repairs or alterations that affect our work may limit our ability to address resulting complications without additional charge.

9. Care and Liability

All work is carried out with care appropriate to the piece. We take reasonable precautions in handling and storing timepieces left with us. However, our liability is limited in the following respects:

  • Pre-existing fragility or undetected damage not apparent at intake.
  • Complications arising from prior undisclosed repairs or non-original components.
  • Vintage or antique pieces where age-related deterioration is present in components beyond the scope of the commissioned service.

If damage occurs to a piece while in our care and is attributable to our handling, we will discuss this with you directly and consider appropriate remediation. Our liability does not extend to the sentimental value of a piece, nor to consequential losses.

10. Parts and Replacement Components

Where original parts are no longer available, we will discuss alternatives with you before proceeding. Replacement parts may be new old stock, appropriate modern equivalents, or workshop-fabricated, depending on what is available and suitable. We do not retain replaced components unless specifically requested at the time of intake.

11. No Service Outcome Commitment

Our work is carried out to a considered standard, but the outcome of restoration or repair depends on the condition of the piece and the nature of its wear. We do not commit to any particular level of post-service performance where the piece has significant age-related deterioration. Where an assessment suggests that service is unlikely to substantially improve a piece, we will advise you before committing to full work.

12. Intellectual Property

All content on this website — including text, layout, and imagery — is the property of Bumi Watch Repair & Restoration or used with permission. It may not be reproduced without written consent.

13. Website Enquiries

Submitting an enquiry via this website does not constitute a binding service agreement. Commissions are accepted only when work begins at the workshop following in-person assessment. We will respond to enquiries in good faith and within a reasonable timeframe.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from these terms or from a service commission will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia. We would always prefer to resolve any concern directly before any formal process is considered.

15. Updates to These Terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. The version in effect on the date your commission is accepted is the version that applies to that commission. The current version is always available on this page.
