How Every Service Starts
Assessment
The piece is examined at drop-off. Condition noted, work scope discussed, cost agreed. No charge for this stage.
Workshop
Work carried out within the agreed scope. Client contacted if findings change the picture. No additions without agreement.
Verification & Handover
The piece is checked before it leaves — regulated, inspected, and confirmed in working order. Collection at the workshop.
Wall Clock Restoration
Considered restoration of wall clocks across regulator, Vienna, and traditional pendulum varieties. Movement servicing, attention to suspension springs and pendulum components, case repair including timber and glass replacement where appropriate, and full regulation following reassembly. Original dial finishes are preserved wherever feasible.
- Full movement clean and lubrication
- Suspension spring and pendulum inspection and adjustment
- Timber, glass, and case repair where appropriate
- Original dial finish preserved where feasible
- Full regulation after reassembly, included
Process Steps
- 1.Assessment — movement and case condition documented
- 2.Movement disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, and inspection
- 3.Case and dial work as agreed in scope
- 4.Reassembly with fresh lubrication and adjusted escapement
- 5.Regulation to rate, then handover
Crystal Polishing
Considered polishing of scratched acrylic and mineral crystals where replacement is not preferred. The work uses graduated polishing compounds on appropriate tools, with progressive grades to soften scratches before final polish. Heat is managed throughout to avoid distortion. For deeper damage where polishing cannot fully restore clarity, replacement is discussed instead.
- Acrylic and mineral crystal both handled
- Graduated compound grades, not a single-pass treatment
- Careful heat management to prevent distortion
- Honest assessment — if polishing is unsuitable, it is said so
Process Steps
- 1.Damage assessed — depth, type, and crystal material identified
- 2.Compound grade selection based on scratch profile
- 3.Progressive polishing with heat monitoring throughout
- 4.Final polish and clarity inspection
- 5.Crystal cleaned and ready for collection
Pivot Polishing & Burnishing
Restoration of worn pivots through careful polishing and burnishing on appropriate tools. The work is undertaken under magnification with attention to maintaining correct geometry and surface finish. Where pivots show damage beyond polishing, replacement of the staff or arbor is discussed with the client. The service is typically combined with a wider movement check.
- All work carried out under magnification
- Geometry checked and maintained throughout
- Staff or arbor replacement discussed if polishing is insufficient
- Typically combined with full movement inspection
Process Steps
- 1.Movement assessed and pivot condition examined under magnification
- 2.Pivot polishing on appropriate lathe or jig
- 3.Burnishing to restore surface hardness and finish
- 4.Geometry check before reassembly
- 5.Movement reassembled, rate checked, returned to client
